TO BUILD A BRIDGE
JASON MORRIS
MATERIALS
2 PIECES OF CARDBOARD (24" X 20")
2 PIECES OF GRAPH PAPER
ROLL OF WAX PAPER
TOOTHPICKS AND GLUE
TAPE
KNIFE
PROCEDURE
TO START, FIRST YOU MUST DESIGN A BRIDGE ON A PIECE OF
PAPER. ONCE THE DESIGN IS CREATED IT MUST BE TRANSFERRED
TO THE GRAPH PAPER TO FULL SCALE. THE SIDES, TOP, AND
BOTTOM SHOULD BE DRAWN SEPARATELY, THAT IS, SIDE VIEWS OF
THE SIDES AND OVERHEAD VIEWS OF THE TOP AND BOTTOM. THESE
WILL BE USED AS TEMPLATES.
TAPE THE GRAPH PAPER DRAWINGS TO THE CARDBOARD AND
COVER EACH WITH THE WAX PAPER. THIS WILL KEEP THE GLUE
FROM STICKING TO THE PAPER DRAWINGS.
TO BUILD EACH SECTION OF THE BRIDGE PLACE THE
TOOTHPICKS ON THE WAX PAPER IN ALIGNMENT WITH EACH
TOOTHPICK ON THE DRAWING AND GLUE INTO PLACE CUTTING THE
TOOTHPICKS AS OFTEN AS NEEDED TO MAKE EACH PIECE FIT.
ALLOW TIME TO DRY AND THEN CAREFULLY REMOVE THE WAX PAPER
FROM EACH SECTION.
WHEN ALL SECTIONS ARE COMPLETED, FIT THEM TOGETHER AND
GLUE INTO PLACE.
TO KEEP THE SECTIONS TOGETHER WHILE THEY DRY WRAP TAPE
OR RUBBER BANDS AROUND THE JOINTS OF EACH SECTION. ALLOW
SUFFICIENT TIME FOR THE GLUE TO DRY THEN REMOVE TAPE OR
RUBBER BANDS AND DISPLAY YOUR BRIDGE.
